The South-Central Calhoun (SCC) Community School District’s Rockwell City preschool program just received the highest rating through the Iowa Quality for Kids (IQ4K) Quality Rating and Improvement System. The preschool program is now one of four child care centers and preschools to receive the Level 5 rating, and is the first in the state to be through an accredited school district to achieve this designation. SCC Elementary Principal Nicole McChesney says participation in the IQ4K rating is completely voluntary, but provides evidence behind the quality of care and education the program provides to children.
The rating is a tier system, so centers and programs apply for a level to be evaluated to receive that rating. McChesney says last year the district applied for a level 4 and were able to achieve the designation, and this year decided to try for the highest rating.
The on-site visit further proves from outside sources that SCC Rockwell City Preschool is meeting standards and McChesney says that is something to be proud of.
McChesney says none of this would have been possible without the support of all the preschool staff at the Rockwell City location.
The SCC Lake City Preschool is going through the same steps to receive a level 5 rating through IQ4K, which McChesney says is a wonderful thing that she is proud to promote for the SCC Community School District.
