A Galva man has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child while babysitting more than five years ago. According to Sac County District Court records, 26-year-old Ethan Lamonte Otto was arrested last year following a Sac City Police Department investigation that determined Otto had sexual contact with a then-eight-year-old child between June 15, 2019, and July 15, 2019. Authorities learned of the incident after the victim told their parents. Otto was interviewed by the Ida County Sheriff’s Office and Sac City Police Department and eventually admitted to the acts. He was initially charged with second-degree sexual abuse, a class B felony, but the charge was later amended down to lascivious acts with a child, a class C felony. Otto submitted an Alford plea, meaning he maintains his innocence but acknowledges the court has enough evidence to convict. He was sentenced on Monday to up to 10 years in prison and was ordered to register with the Iowa Sex Offender Registry for the remainder of his life.
