The IKM-Manning FFA Chapter has been selected to receive a $5,000 grant through the Maschhoffs Feed Families and Building Communities Grant. The Maschhoffs is one of the leading hog production companies in the country and offer funding opportunities for community infrastructure, food insecurity, and youth engagement and agricultural education grants. The IKM-Manning FFA Chapter will utilize the $5,000 to pay for the construction of the new greenhouse. The previous structure served the chapter for 23 years, until a windstorm caused significant damage in the spring of 2021. Instead of refurbishing the existing building, the district decided to move forward with the construction of a new greenhouse. The 24 by 48 foot structure will have updated amenities, including shade protection for the plants, concrete floors, up to code standards, ventilation on both sides and a ten foot storage room in the front. The IKM-Manning FFA Chapter members want to extend their gratitude to The Maschhoffs for supporting this project to continue to promote ag related learning in the district.
