Carroll Businessman and former Carroll Mayor Adam Schweers was named the Citizen of the Year during last night’s (Thursday) Carroll Chamber of Commerce annual banquet. The evening’s emcee, Tim Fitzpatrick, outlined the criteria used to select winners of the chamber’s highest honor.
Last year’s Citizen of the Year, Dave Bruner, introduced Schweers as the latest recipient.
Schweers says he had no inkling he was to receive an award Thursday evening, let alone the chamber’s top honor of Citizen of the Year. He says it is an honor to be singled out in a room full of people who are equally deserving of such recognition.
Schweers grew up in Arcadia and moved to Carroll in 1997. Over the last three decades, he has served on the city council and, as Carroll’s mayor, been involved in the Carroll Young Professionals, the Carroll Chamber of Commerce, the Carroll Area Development Corporation (CADC), now the Carroll County Growth Partnership (CCGP), the Carroll Rotary, and many other organizations. According to Schweers, Carroll remains one of the best places in Iowa, and there are even more great things to come.
Schweers joined KCIM this (Friday) morning, and that interview is included below. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more from the other chamber award winners in upcoming newscasts.
