Feenstra-Led Bills To Reform IRS Practices Approved By House Ways And Means Committee

Two bills led by U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) to reform Internal Revenue Service (IRS) procedures have passed the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee. One measure, the National Taxpayer Advocate Enhancement Act, would allow the nonpartisan National Taxpayer Advocate to hire its own attorneys, ensuring greater independence in protecting taxpayers. The second proposal, the Internal Revenue Service Math and Taxpayer Help Act (IRS MATH), would require the IRS to communicate tax-filing errors to taxpayers clearly, explain why adjustments to tax refunds or obligations were made, and provide for challenges. Feenstra says, “I will continue to advocate for Iowa taxpayers, push for lower taxes, and make the IRS more responsive and accountable to the American people.” Both bills have been introduced fully in the U.S. House and await a floor vote.
