Tony Konkler, a U.S. Navy veteran and retired Carroll police officer, was named the Carroll Chamber of Commerce’s inaugural recipient of the Hometown Hero Award during last Thursday’s chamber banquet. Emcee Tim Fitzpatrick says the award was introduced to recognize a veteran who has made a long-lasting impact on their friends, neighbors, and community at large.
RT Schreck, a Carroll American Legion member, says few people are as deserving of recognition as Konkler.
Schreck says Konkler is a well-recognized face for many in Carroll and beyond.
Konkler says he was surprised when his name was announced for the award. He says serving others has always been a part of his life, and little could make him change that.
Konkler is the first to receive the Hometown Hero Award from the Carroll Chamber of Commerce, but it is expected to return at future banquets. Links to stories from the other award winners are included below.
