A Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office investigation alleges a Coon Rapids man had been chasing another driver prior to a serious crash in Guthrie Center on Sunday evening. According to the initial report, the crash occurred at approximately 10:29 p.m. in the 300 block of S. 1st Street. Authorities say 20-year-old Hilario Ramos was traveling southbound in a 2014 Nissan Rogue, owned by Los Altos Mexican Restaurant LLC, and was attempting to flee from a pursuing vehicle. Ramos lost control due to the high rate of speed and snow conditions, crashing into a concrete barrier owned by Concrete Supply, Inc. Authorities allege the chase vehicle fled from the scene after Ramos crashed. Further investigation identified that the secondary vehicle was a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado K1500, owned by 42-year-old Juan Manuel Trevino of Coon Rapids. Ramos sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines by Guthrie County Emergency Medical Services for treatment. The report notes Ramos did not possess a valid driver’s license at the time of the crash. No charges have been filed as of Tuesday morning, but an investigation is ongoing.
