Many volunteers gathered at the First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Carroll yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon for the second annual rice meal packing event with Midwest Mission to provide meals for disaster areas and other places in need. What began last year with the UM Kids after school program expanded to include local schools’ National Honor Society, the church’s confirmation group, youth group, and other members of the church. Director of Ministries, Suzi Olberding says it’s a great sight to see everyone come together and help others in need as Jesus preached.
Three tables were set up with a step-by-step process to create what Midwest Mission calls “Blessing Bags”. Olberding says each station takes ten people to ensure the meals are packed properly.
This year, FUMC was able to receive $2,000 in donations, which will build 1,000 bags to feed 6,000 individuals. Olberding says once all the 25 boxes are packed, they get loaded back into the trailer to be shipped off.
Olberding extends her thanks to all the kids and adults who stepped up to pack the meals and to others for the various ways they all assisted in making this event a success.
