Iowans Set Record For Unclaimed Property Day Recoveries

Iowans set new records for unclaimed property claims and searches during the 2025 Unclaimed Property Day celebration, State Treasurer Roby Smith announced. More than 500,000 visits were recorded on GreatIowaTreasureHunt.gov, resulting in 13,137 individual claims, a 92 percent increase from 2024. The total value of claims filed exceeded $4.6 million, including a single claim of more than $250,000. Smith says, “This year’s Unclaimed Property Day was a huge success, with the value of claims filed totaling more than $4.6 million. The largest claim from the event totaled over $250,000. Even with this success, there’s still more we can do to reunite Iowans with their unclaimed property, so I encourage every citizen to search GreatIowaTreasureHunt.gov to see if they’ve got something to claim!” Currently, more than $500 million remains available in the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt. Smith urges current and former Iowans to search anytime for unclaimed money, forgotten accounts, and other assets at GreatIowaTreasureHunt.gov. The Great Iowa Treasure Hunt is the state’s only legitimate unclaimed property program, managed by the Treasurer’s Office.
