The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office reports heavy scam calls in the area and wants to remind everyone to use caution when answering calls requesting money. The scammers are calling residents, specifically the elderly, claiming a loved one or close friend is in jail, in an accident and needs bail money. The individuals are even using voice altering programs to make the voices more realistic to the victim’s loved one in “trouble”. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office recommends to contact those who are being portrayed directly to verify the information and to contact local law enforcement. Do not give out any personal information or to set up a place to meet or drop off the money. If anyone believes they were a victim of a scam to contact their local law enforcement agency.
