Region XII Council of Governments has completed its first home rehabilitation project in Coon Rapids under the Iowa Home Grant Program, providing a fully renovated home to a first-time, income-eligible homebuyer. Region XII received $850,000 in funding to acquire and rehabilitate five homes in their service area. The Coon Rapids home, which was donated to Region XII, underwent extensive renovations, including a new roof, siding, windows, interior finishes, mechanical and electrical systems, and a completely new bathroom. A wall was removed to create a more open kitchen and dining area, and the original front porch was restored to complement the surrounding historic homes. Proceeds from the home’s sale will be added to a revolving fund to continue acquiring and rehabilitating homes, ensuring the preservation of existing housing stock for years to come.
