Voters overwhelmingly approved the implementation of a new Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) for the Glidden-Ralston Community School District in today’s (Tuesday) special election. According to unofficial results from the Carroll County Auditor’s Office, the measure to add a $1.34 per $1,000 of taxable assessed valuation levy passed with 71.58 percent of the vote. In raw numbers, 292 ballots were cast, 209 in favor and just 83 opposed. Turnout was quite low with just under 24 percent of the 1,217 registered voters participating in the special election. The PPEL is expected to generate $2.2 million for the district over the next 10 years, which will be used to finance debt incurred for updates to the nearly 100-year-old building, including relocating the district’s central offices, adding restrooms nearby the gymnasium, adding fire-suppression systems, or other similar purposes. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more from Glidden-Ralston Superintendent Thomas Ridder in upcoming newscasts. Results remain unofficial until canvassed by the Carroll County Board of Supervisors.
