Travel remains ill-advised throughout the listening area this (Wednesday) morning as the overnight storm dropped several inches of snow, coupled with strong winds. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT), every major highway in the region, including U.S. Highways 71, 20, and 30, and Iowa Highway 141, are classified as “Travel Not Advised.” Roads are completely covered with snow in nearly 100 percent of the area, and blowing snow complicates matters by limiting visibility. The conditions are even more treacherous on the region’s more rural roadways, as roads drift closed soon after plows make a pass. Carroll County Sheriff Ken Pingrey says his office has multiple reports of stranded vehicles that they cannot reach until conditions improve. Those who are able to delay travel are strongly encouraged to do so.
