Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has reported a Harlan man has died from injuries sustained after a standoff with law enforcement earlier this (Thursday) morning. According to authorities, Shelby County Sheriff deputies were performing a welfare check on an individual in the 1800 block of College Place in Harlan around 4:30 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies were met with 36-year-old David Plagmann, who was armed and making aggressive movements toward law enforcement. Shots were fired at Plagmann, and life-saving measures were taken. He was transported to Myrtue Hospital in Harlan but was pronounced deceased a short time later. Authorizes also located a deceased female at the scene, who has been identified as 31-year-old Alexis Martin. The investigation is still ongoing and no further information will be provided at this time. Law enforcement says the incident is believed to be isolated, and there is no threat to the community. The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation is assisting the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.
