Fuel prices in the state over the past week were mixed in the latest report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa. As of Wednesday, March 5, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.98, up two cents from last week but 12 cents below prices from a year ago. The national average for gasoline on Wednesday was down two cents to $3.11 per gallon. Retail diesel prices in Iowa dropped three cents to a $3.41 per gallon statewide average, 36 cents below prices from last year. Local prices are 25 cents below the $3.66 national average for diesel. Wholesale ethanol was unchanged from $2.16. In heating fuels, natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site jumped 35 cents to $4.34 per MMBtu. Propane prices dipped three cents to $1.66 per gallon, while home heating oil rose one cent to $3.03 per gallon.
