Western Iowa Networks (WIN) continues to expand its fiber optic network, bringing high-speed internet to rural communities through strategic funding and partnerships. Since 2019, WIN has laid nearly 2,200 miles of fiber and expanded service to 22 communities. The company credits programs such as the USDA’s ReConnect Program, the FCC’s Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF), and the State of Iowa’s Empower Rural Iowa Broadband Grant Program for fueling growth. CEO Jeff Roiland says, “At Western Iowa Networks, we recognize that reliable, high-speed internet is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity for rural communities to thrive.” WIN has leveraged all eight rounds of the state’s broadband grants, expanding fiber connections in Audubon, Carroll, Crawford, Sac, Calhoun, Mills, Montgomery, Pottawattamie, and Fremont counties. Additional funding from RDOF and ReConnect supported projects in Mills and Crawford counties and the Arcadia exchange. The company now serves customers in nine counties and dozens of communities, including Carroll, Council Bluffs, Denison, Glenwood, Treynor, and Vail.
