The Carroll County Solid Waste Management Commission has announced Saturday, March 29, will be this year’s date for its annual countywide Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Event. The drop-off program will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Carroll Campus at 906 N. Grant Rd. in Carroll. Residents are encouraged to safely dispose of unwanted household hazardous waste, such as old paints, solvents, rechargeable batteries, pesticides, light bulbs, and other acceptable materials. Education Coordinator Abbey Conrad says, “Disposing of hazardous waste responsibly is crucial for our environment and public health. Our event aims to provide homeowners a safe and environmentally friendly way to dispose of hazardous materials that could otherwise pose a risk to public health and the environment.” There is no cost to participate in the program. Simply keep items in original containers when possible, ensure containers are securely closed, avoid bringing commercial or industrial waste, and remain inside your vehicles during drop-off. For more details and an updated list of acceptable materials, visit www.carrollcountylandfill.com or call 712-792-5001. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more information about the event as it draws nearer.
