MidAmerican Energy crews have restored power to more than 51,000 customers following the powerful winter storm yesterday (Wednesday). As of 6 a.m., an estimated 5,500 customers remained without power. Crews from across the company, along with contracted crews from throughout the Midwest, are working around the clock to complete restoration efforts. Improving road conditions are allowing additional support to access the hardest-hit areas, especially along the I-29 corridor, which sustained significant damage including broken poles, downed wires and damaged equipment. Most customers are expected to have power restored by the end of today (Thursday). However, in areas with severe damage, restoration may extend into Friday morning, March 21. For customers without power in the immediate area, MidAmerican expects most customers to be restored by noon around Carroll, by 3 p.m. in the Rockwell City area, and by 7 p.m. near Audubon. MidAmerican thanked customers for their patience and emphasized that safety remains the top priority. Customers are encouraged to report outages online, monitor the outage map, and sign up for alerts. Downed power lines should be reported immediately to local authorities and at 1-800-799-4443.
