The Lake City City Council has approved the resignation of current City Administrator Jacob Matthews and will begin the process of hiring the next candidate. Matthews started working for Lake City two years ago, taking over the position after the last full-time administrator, Eric Wood, resigned. Matthews says so much has been accomplished over his time as city administrator that picking just one thing to be proud of is nearly impossible.
Matthews served as the city manager for the City of Fairbury, Neb., before relocating his family to Lake City for this position. Matthews says Lake City was the place they needed to be at the time, but now he knows it’s time to move on to other future endeavors.
Matthews’s last day with Lake City is set for July 1, which he says will allow him to finalize the fiscal year (FY) 2026 budget and find a suitable candidate to serve the city.
Lake City has been home for Matthews and his family, and while he is sad to leave it behind, he says he is excited to see what the future holds not only for himself but also for Lake City.
The administrator position will be posted online shortly. Those interested in the job are asked to contact City Hall for more information or to fill out an application.
