A long-time Sac County farm family, Roger and Ellen Buehler, are the recipients of the 2025 Iowa Master Farmers Award. Roger Buehler grew up on a century farm, and started growing the cattle feedlot in 1974 with his brother after serving in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and earning his master’s degree in animal science at Iowa State University. Roger met Ellen on a church canoeing trip on the Canadian Boundary Waters and were married in 1985. The two continued to farm outside of Odebolt, facing challenges and growing the corn, soybean and cattle feedlot that markets between 1,350 to 1,400 cattle annually. Besides farming, both are very active in the community, being an active member of the American Legion Roose 313, serving on the local school district board, ISU Extension board, as well as representing the local church, 4-H and FFA groups and more. The Iowa Master Farmer Award was established in 1926 by Henry A. Wallace, to recognize Iowa farmers demonstrating excellence in agricultural production, community involvement and family life. The Buehler’s were nominated by 2008 Iowa Master Farmer Don Friedrichsen of Holstein.
