Negotiators will need to go back to the drawing board after the Carroll County Board of Supervisors rejected a proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 union agreement with the Carroll County Paramedics Association at Monday’s meeting. Negotiations have been ongoing for months, but the agreement hashed out behind closed doors between the board’s representatives, Supervisors Mike Andersen and Mark McCrea, and the association’s designees stalled at the finish line. Board Chair Scott Johnson highlights the proposed changes from last year’s contract.
Ambulance department staff are categorized based on their training and certification level, from the top tier at Critical Care Paramedic (CCP), then Paramedic, Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Mark Beardmore, a Carroll resident attending Monday’s meeting, questioned Johnson on the agreement’s impact on the budget.
District 3 Supervisor Gene Meiners’ motion to accept the proposed agreement failed due to a lack of a second, but the board did not identify which part of the agreement they did not support. The county’s negotiators will return to talks with the association’s representatives. The FY26 agreement is expected to appear on the board’s April 6 agenda.
