Opportunity Living in Lake City will soon have expanded accessibility for its indoor pool thanks to a grant from the Calhoun County Community Foundation. Jayne Wilhelm, Opportunity Living’s community relations and development director, says the pool is a favorite among clients with physical and mental disabilities, and this new piece of equipment will allow more people to use it.
Wilhelm says the pool underwent substantial renovations a few years ago thanks to community support, and this latest addition expands on that effort.
While the funding has been secured, Wilhelm says it will take some time to install the equipment.
Wilhelm adds that none of this would have been possible without the outstanding support from residents and businesses and offers a big “thank you” to all who have helped with this project. The pool is still operational for now, but it will need to be closed for close to a month once work begins. Wilhelm expects the pool will be open again no later than the end of spring. While Opportunity Living operates the facility, clients, the public, and hospital patients use the pool tens of thousands of times per year for physical therapy, exercise, and fun.
