Rose Bauer was born to Frank and Anna (Heller) Baumhover on a farm outside of Carroll, Iowa on January 9, 1928. She was the seventh of ten children. Rose attended and graduated from Saint Angela’s Academy in 1946. After graduating she was working as a telephone operator when she met her future husband Matt Bauer and they married four months later on April 25, 1949, at St. Peter & Paul’s Church in Carroll by Father Othmar W. Koester.
During their marriage, Rose and Matt welcomed 8 wonderful children: Helen Marie, Susan, Matt Jr., Mark, Nicholas, Nancy, John and Richard. Rose was a dedicated mother and partner with her husband in their farming and cattle buying business. She selflessly cared about the welfare and education of her family; her family was always #1. Anita enjoyed the lake atmosphere of Lake Panorama, especially the family dinners and watching her family have fun. After Matt died in 2003, and through her 96th birthday in 2024, Anita stayed very active in the management of the farm operation. She often enjoyed her animal friends that visited her deck and the birds that she catered to daily.
Surviving are her children: Susan Wessling (John) of Carroll, Iowa; Matt Bauer Jr. (Cindy) of Templeton, Iowa; Mark Bauer (Mary) of Jefferson, Iowa; Nancy Yeager of West Des Moines, Iowa; and Richard Bauer (Lydia) of Phoenix, Arizona; sister-in-law Julie Baumhover of Carroll; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and a great-great grandson; along with
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Matt Bauer; her parents Frank and Anna Baumhover; children: Helen Marie, Nicholas Luke, and John Paul; six brothers: Clarence Baumhover, Arthur Baumhover, David Baumhover, Leo Baumhover, Herbert Baumhover, Frank Baumhover; and three sisters: Cordelia Morris, Ruth Spear and Rita Trotter.
