A local hair salon is partnering with an Iowa non-profit to raise money for cancer patients to purchase wigs through “The Mane Event,” happening next month. Strands of Strength is a 501(c)(3) established in 2011 by a breast cancer survivor to assist patients going through cancer treatment by providing financial assistance to cover the cost of a wig. A cocktail social hour will be held on May 2 at Carroll National Golf Club, sponsored by Strands of Strength and Hair & Wigs by Kim. Owner of Hair & Wigs by Kim, Kim Murrell, says there is much support behind the event, that tickets to attend were sold out within days.
Murrell says all the raffle items donated by local individuals and businesses will have something for everyone.
All the proceeds will go directly to Strands of Strength, which then provides vouchers to the St. Anthony Regional Hospital Cancer Clinic for patients undergoing treatment. They then take the voucher to Murrell at her salon to be fitted for a wig of their choice. Murrell says she has been working with hair for almost three decades now, and by partnering with Strands of Strength, she is able to contribute to the hope and confidence brought back to the patients by helping them “shine their crown.”
Murrell would also like to extend her appreciation to everyone who has purchased a ticket and donated items for the auction and monetary donations. She is so grateful and continuously amazed by the support the Carroll community continues to give to events like this. She is excited to see what the “Mane Event” will bring for local cancer patients and Strands of Strength.
