Carroll County Supervisors To Finalize Appointment Of New County Attorney At Monday’s Meeting

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors will vote on Monday to finalize the appointment of a new county attorney to fill out the remainder of longtime Carroll County Attorney John Werden’s term following his unexpected death last month. The supervisors convene at 8:50 a.m. on April 14 at the Carroll County Courthouse, and their first item of business will be a resolution approving the appointment. Curt Steger, who served for over a decade as assistant county attorney under Werden, was previously chosen to serve as interim county attorney until a formal successor was selected, and the supervisors are expected to appoint Steger to complete the term, which runs through the end of 2026. Monday’s meeting also includes the final public hearing on the county’s proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 budget at 9 a.m., followed by a resolution to approve the budget and certification of taxes. Other items on Monday’s agenda include reports from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Passport Department, as well as discussions on opioid settlement fund use in the county. Again, the Monday, April 14 meeting begins 10 minutes earlier than usual at 8:50 a.m. at the Carroll County Courthouse. The meeting is open to the public and will be live-streamed via the county’s YouTube channel. Links to the agenda and video are included below.
