The Lake View City Council held a discussion during Monday night’s meeting to potentially raise utility rates of water, sewer and electric to customers in the community. Interim City Administrator Jeff Kruse discussed findings from the financial review of utilities report from Piper Sandler. Kruse says the city will either need to cut expenses or raise the rates.
A projected increase of 4.5 percent was used for various improvements to the utilities, though a definite increase has not been determined. Kruse says while officials have tried to keep the cost to taxpayers as low as possible, in order to continue services with the rising cost of inflation, rates will need to increase.
One of the improvements they were referring to was to establish a water line north of Hwy 175 for the new Casey’s store planned to be constructed. Utilities Director Jason Butler, says that was something the city was not budgeting for.
A representative from Piper Sandler will be at the next city council meeting on April 21 to discuss more in-depth for the report.
