Southwest Audubon County Reminded Of Yellow Level Water Restrictions

Rural residents and those living in Exira and Brayton in southwest Audubon County are reminded of the Level Yellow water restriction by the Regional Water Rural Water Association. The Level Yellow is the second-highest alert in the RWRWA Emergency Water Conservation Plan, with mandatory nonessential water restrictions in place. General Manager Tom Kallman says, “Usage is up, but the water levels in our wellfield are below last year’s levels, and we haven’t even gotten through spring yet. We will not be able to provide water for customers’ needs this summer if we don’t conserve immediately.” He says the next steps would be to ration the water, which is something RWRWA has never had to do. The following reduction measures are in place: large volume water users, such as livestock confinement facilities and spraying operations, should find alternative water sources, no using water unless necessary between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m., reduce water usage for showers and other hygiene purposes, and only do full loads of laundry and dishes. For more information or to have questions answered, contact RWRWA by visiting their website, rwrwa.org, or by calling 712-343-2413.
