The Carroll County Board of Supervisors voted to finalize the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 budget at Monday’s meeting. County Auditor Kourtney Payer summarizes some of the highlights for the coming tax year.
The board did not receive any comments, written or in person, during Monday’s public hearing. District 3 Supervisor Gene Meiners thanked Payer and county staff for their diligence in budget preparation.
Payer also presented the required resolution for elected officials’ compensation, which included pay bumps of five percent for the sheriff, 2.5 percent for the treasurer, recorder, and county attorney, 2.5 percent for the auditor with a $4,000 stipend, and freezing pay for the supervisors. Both the budget and elected officials’ salaries were approved 4-1, with District 4 Supervisor Stephanie Hausman being the sole nay vote. She says salaries were her only sticking point.
With the budget approved, Carroll County’s FY26 tax rate is now set at $4.35745 for the urban levy and $7.58002 for the rural levy, slightly below the figures presented earlier in the preparation process. The final step is for county officials to file the budget with the Iowa Department of Management by April 30.
