A Canadian man whose victim escaped from him at an Avoca truck stop has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for transporting a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. According to court records from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa, 45-year-old Quentin Joel Nighttraveller of Saskatchewan, Canada, drove his 14-year-old daughter from Canada to the United States. Nighttraveller, a commercial truck driver, stopped in Rogers, Minn., for truck repairs, where he sexually assaulted the victim. Nighttraveler’s route took them through Avoca, where the victim went into a gas station and sought help during a stop. Nighttraveller fled the scene and was later arrested by law enforcement. Nighttraveller must serve five years of supervised release after completing his 14-year sentence. There is no parole in the federal system. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office as part of Project Safe Childhood, a Justice Department initiative to combat child sexual exploitation.
