Gov. Kim Reynolds has requested a Presidential Disaster Declaration for four Iowa counties, including Crawford County, following severe weather that caused widespread damage on March 19. Reynolds is seeking federal aid through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Public Assistance Program for Crawford, Harrison, Monona, and Woodbury counties. The request comes after a joint assessment by federal, state, and local officials estimated the storm, which brought 60+ mph winds, quarter-sized hail, and more than a foot of snow, caused more than $8 million in damage to public infrastructure and private property. If approved, FEMA funding could be used to support a range of recovery efforts, including debris removal, utility repairs, and emergency protective measures such as sheltering, essential needs distribution, and transportation of emergency supplies. Iowa’s congressional delegation sent letters to the Trump Administration urging approval of the governor’s request.
