Sac County Sheriff’s K9 Remo finishes second overall for the Region 21 United States Police Canine Association’s (USPCA) K9 Narcotic Trials. The three-day training was held in West Des Moines earlier this month, bringing in 51 dogs from across the state. In the trials, the K9, along with their handlers, searched three separate rooms with two hides of narcotics that the dog would find and be scored on based on performance. The team also searched five individual cars with two hides in two of the vehicles. Sac County Sheriff Deputy Francisco Cruze and K9 Remo scored the second-highest of the 51 dogs, earning the second overall place. First place went to Deputy Ruopp with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office with K9 Liz, and third place was Officer Meinecke with the Sheldon Police Department and K9 Balin.
