Glidden Aquatic Center Will Open This Year As Enough Lifeguards Have Been Hired

The Glidden City Pool will be opening this season, as enough lifeguards have been hired to adequately staff the aquatic center. Earlier this month, City Administrator Brooke Peterson was concerned the pool would have to remain shut this season due to less previous staff returning for the summer and few new applicants applying for work at the pool. She is thankful though, that the tough decision of closing the pool will not have to be made.

Peterson says a lot of high school students applied for the positions, so the pool may need to adjust hours to be flexible to accommodate for sports and other summer extracurricular activities.

The Glidden Aquatic Center opens for the season Memorial Day Weekend, which Peterson says gives crews time to get the normal maintenance completed.

Other surrounding community pools were facing the same dilemma that Glidden Aquatic Center was facing. Individuals at least 15 years old and are either certified or can become certified lifeguards through the Red Cross are encouraged to contact their community’s respective pool to apply and ensure everyone has a fun and safe summer experience this year at the pools.
