Superindendent Contract Approved For Three Years With Three Percent Increase To Salary And Benefits Passes CCSD Board Of Education With 3-2 Vote

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education approved the superintendent’s contract on a 3-2 vote during Monday night’s board meeting. The district is offering the current Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, a three-year contract, which is what has been provided in the past, with a three percent increase to his salary and benefits package, half of which will go to salary and half to benefits. Before offering any response, board member Jim Friel questioned if the board was going to discuss this at an open meeting.

Berlau and Director of Business Affairs Nicole McCarville said a closed session was never planned, as one wasn’t placed on the agenda.

Even with new legislation passed regarding closed sessions, McCarville said the district has never held a closed session to discuss the superintendent contract.

Board member Jill Johnson motioned to approve the contract as presented, but before seconding the motion, board member Duane Horsley asked again about the specifics of the increases.

No further discussions were held regarding the contract, and it passed as presented on a 3-2 vote, with Friel and Board member Stacey McCauley being the “nay” votes.
