A Coon Rapids man remains in custody after allegedly attempted to sexual assault a relative, resisting arrest, indecent exposure and threatening to snipe individuals. According to Carroll County District Court records, on April 27, law enforcement was dispatched to a residence north-west of Coon Rapids, where 34-year-old Patrick Joel Maloney was allegedly attempting to sexually assault a relative, forcing her clothes off and getting physical with her. Upon arrival, law enforcement observed Maloney to be undressed from the waist down and refusing to follow commands given by officers. Maloney allegedly resisted commands while being detained, where he lunged and kicked officers and ignored directions from law enforcement. He was taken into custody but later released. A separate incident occurred on May 6, where Maloney allegedly was threatening to snipe someone while being in possession of firearms. Maloney was detained again to the Carroll County Jail where he remains. Maloney faces charges of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and first-degree harassment, aggravated misdemeanors, indecent exposure, a serious misdemeanor and interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor. His arraignment hearing has been scheduled for June 12 at the Carroll County Courthouse. If convicted, Maloney can face a maximum sentence of up to 5 years in prison and over $20,000 in fines.
