Two Fatalities In Accident East Of Breda On Hwy 71 Friday Morning

Two people were killed following a three-vehicle accident, which included a semi-tractor trailer, Friday morning on U.S. Highway 71 east of Breda. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 11:19 a.m. at the intersection with 120th Street. Authorities say a 2023 Toyota Rav4, operated by 79-year-old Jack Brown of Breda, was traveling eastbound on 120th Street and failed to stop at the posted stop sign. As the Brown vehicle entered the intersection, it was struck by a southbound 2022 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 79-year-old Jeanette Mary Bolster of Lake City. Following the initial collision, the Brown vehicle was then struck by a northbound 2025 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer, operated by 47-year-old Tyler Ward of Ankeny, before coming to rest in the east ditch. Brown was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services but later died from injuries sustained in the crash. Bolster was taken taken to St. Anthony Regional Hospital with serious injuries, while her passenger, 82-year-old Francis Bolster was pronounced dead at the scene. Ward was uninjured in the crash. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, the Carroll Police Department, the Carroll County Communications Center, and the Breda Fire Department also assisted in Friday’s response.
