Jefferson Woman Jailed After Dispute Between Neighbors Results In Property Damage

The Jefferson Police Department reports a Jefferson woman has been taken into custody after a dispute between neighbors turned to property damage. At approximately 9:34 a.m. Wednesday morning, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of East Central Street after they were contacted by 47-year-old Jennifer Ashby, who told authorities her neighbor had shot at her cat. Their initial investigation revealed the neighbor, Scott Halligan, had used a firecracker in an attempt to scare the cat out of his yard. According to law enforcement, Ashby confronted Halligan about the incident and caused approximately $750 in damage to his 2000 Chevrolet Silverado by smashing the passenger window and taillights with a hammer. Ashby was arrested and transported to the Greene County jail, where she was booked on several misdemeanor charges: criminal mischief, harassment, trespassing and animal at large. Halligan was issued a warning for use of fireworks within city limits.
