Most of western Iowa is now experiencing moderate to severe drought conditions, and Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach is taking note of the rising concerns for crop and livestock producers. In response, they have scheduled 10 free drought-impact meetings throughout the region, included five in the immediate listening area. Each meeting will last approximately 90 minutes and features experts on crop growth and development under drought conditions, the use of drought-damaged crops as feed, crop insurance considerations and much more. Beginning 45 minutes before or after each meeting, producers can bring in up to five corn stalk samples for on-site nitrate assessments. Due to COVID-19, producers who are feeling sick or have been exposed to any COVID-positive individuals in the 14 days prior to the meeting should not attend. Most of the scheduled meetings will be held in outdoor venues to comply with social distancing guidelines. Face coverings are strongly encouraged.
