2020 can definitely be labeled the year of firsts, and in Audubon County, one of these has sparked the idea for another. For the first time in the past 70 years of the community’s annual T-Bone Days, it was cancelled due to COVID-19-related concerns. Resident and member of the Audubon County Economic Development and Tourism board, Sara Slater, says they have developed a bike ride that bears the iconic celebration’s name, the T-Bone Ride.
There is a $25 per rider registration fee for the Saturday, Sept. 19 event that runs from 1 p.m. to about 6 p.m. Slater explains what the fee covers, where that money goes and how to get signed up.
There will also be some special entertainment following the ride.
The band will start at 6:30 p.m. and the Rec Center has locker rooms where riders can change if they choose. Participants can do as much or as little biking as they wish along the 21-mile route. The trail runs parallel to U.S. Highway 71 for a segment, but it also veers off into some beautiful, tree-lined areas. Slater says there are several places to pull over and take a break.
Slater says the segment through Audubon County is part of two national trails, the American Discovery Trail and the Great American Rail-Trail, and bikers will get the chance to take part in a fun activity on a specific part of it.
