Recently, Gov. Kim Reynolds approved an allocation to support small businesses impacted by COVID-19 through the federal CARES Act. This includes the Small Business Utility Disruption Prevention Program through the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). This measure’s goal is to provide some relief to small businesses and non-profit organizations with fewer than 50 employees who are having difficulty paying utility bills for services they received during business disruptions. Eligible entities could receive assistance for electric and natural gas bills for service between March 17, 2020 and June 30, 2020 with a cap of $7,500. Credits will be applied to the service provider on behalf of the business or organization. The funds are being dispersed on a first-come, first-served basis and applicants must meet a variety of qualifications to receive funding. More details on this and on how to apply can be found below.
