Janice L. (Olerich) Huisenga of Carroll

Janice L. (Olerich) Huisenga, age 90, of Carroll passed away on Monday, August 3rd, 2020 at Eden Crest Legacy in Norwalk, IA.
A private funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll with Rev. Rikki Sorensen officiating.  Casket bearers will be Janice’s grandchildren.  Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.

A Celebration of Janice’s life will be held on a later date.

Janice was born December 26, 1929 on her family’s farm south of Breda and was the daughter of Joseph and Caroline (Steinkamp) Reis.  She grew up on the farm and attended St. Bernard’s High School in Breda.  Janice was married to Milo Olerich September 7, 1949 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda.  The couple made their home on the Olerich family farm north of Ralston.  To this union were born five children: Allan, Linn, Rick, Cathy, and Dean.  Milo passed away in July of 1965 and Janice continued to live on the farm for four years and worked for her sister-in-law Thelma Huisenga in her upholstery shop.  Janice was married to Kenneth Huisenga in August of 1969 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll.  To this union was born one daughter Mary.  Janice and Kenny lived on a farm northeast of Carroll and Janice worked Franklin Manufacturing in Jefferson.  The couple later separated and she continued to live in Carroll and managed Kentucky Fried Chicken and later worked at St. Anthony Regional Hospital as assistant dietician. Janice also worked for several years as a greeter at Walmart.  She enjoyed gardening, walking, Jigsaw puzzles, antiquing, and spending time with her family and friends.  She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Carroll.
Janice is survived by her five children and families: Allan Olerich (Jonna) of Glidden, Linn Olerich (Linda) of Indianola, Cathy Bristol (Darrel Lindholm) of Lincoln, NE, Dean Olerich (Laurie) of Mundelein, IL, and Mary Ferden (Brian) of Norwalk; her daughter-in-law Janet Olerich of Carroll; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Caroline Reis; four brothers Verdis, Mike, Delmer, and Joe, an infant brother Unice; five sisters: Lorraine Kileen, Darnella Loneman, Betty Williams, Illame Reisberg, and Karen Reis; and a son-in-law Larry Bristol; and her son Rick Olerich in 2019.
