As of 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Carroll County reported 183 positive cases of COVID-19, with 155 of those classified as recovered. Carroll County Public Health nurse, Sara Schulte says they are still seeing the trend line moving up and down right now.
For weeks now, county and state medical experts have been noting a rise in the number of positive cases in the younger and middle-range age groups, 41 to 60 and 18 to 40, that together comprise 65 percent of the positive case counts in Carroll County. However, there has been a recent increase in those from zero to 17 that is now at 13 percent.
There is no particular trend right now in the severity of cases. Schulte says they run the gamut from those that are asymptomatic to others that are severe. Carroll County has only recorded one coronavirus-related death, and Schulte says this can be credited to staff and their treatment of COVID at St. Anthony Regional Hospital and Clinic.
The Test Iowa site at St. Anthony became operational on June 10, and although they have not seen as much activity as when it first opened, Schulte says as long as there is demand for the testing, it will remain. She reminds those who wish to get tested how to go about scheduling an appointment.
Those without internet can contact Carroll County Public Health or St. Anthony for assistance. Those numbers are included below. Schulte says the turnaround time here has been fast, much quicker than the 10-day national average, at two to three days maximum. She does, however, caution this could change if demand increases, which is somewhat expected when area schools resume in-person classes later this month.
