As Gov. Kim Reynolds seeks federal disaster aid of nearly $4 billion for derecho-related recovery efforts across Iowa, two more counties have been added to Iowa’s disaster proclamations. As of late last week, Guthrie and Cass Counties can now use state resources, including the Individual Assistance Grant Program for qualifying residents and the Disaster Case Management Program. The individual grant program provides up to $5,000 to households with incomes of up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level, or a maximum annual income of $43,440 for a family of three. The grant dollars can be used for home or car repairs, replacement of clothing or food and temporary housing expenses. Original receipts are required for reimbursement of actual expenses related to storm recovery. A link to more details and applications can be found below. Applicants will have 45 days from the date of the proclamation (Friday, Aug. 14) to submit a claim. The Disaster Case Management Program is designed to address serious needs to overcome a disaster-related hardship, injury or adverse condition. Case managers will work with clients to create a recovery plan and then provide guidance, advice and referrals. There are no income requirements for the program, which closes 180 days from the proclamation date. A link for more details on how to apply can also be found here. The proclamation includes the suspension of weight limits and hours of service for disaster repair crews, drivers delivering goods and services and the movement of loads related to responding to the severe storm system throughout the state.
