Cell Phone Distraction Leads To Three-Vehicle Accident In Glidden Tuesday

A distraction reportedly led to a three-vehicle collision Tuesday on U.S. Highway 30 in Glidden. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection with Idaho Street at approximately 5:17 p.m. The initial investigation revealed that 54-year-old Jeffrey Todd Wicker of Glidden was westbound on Highway 30 in a 2015 Toyota Prius, but stopped and waiting for oncoming traffic to negotiate a left-hand turn onto Idaho Street. A 2013 Chrysler Town and Country van, driven by 40-year-old Tricia Kelly Bock of Glidden, was behind Wicker, but coming to a stop. At that same time, 19-year-old Shawn David Wilkerson of Jamaica was also westbound behind the other two vehicles in a 2008 Chevrolet K1500. Wilkerson told authorities he got a notification on his cell phone and glanced down at it, unaware that traffic was coming to a stop in front of him. He collided with the Bock van which was pushed into the Wicker car. Wicker reported possible minor injuries, but was not transported for treatment. There was an estimated $2,000 in damage to the Wicker Prius, $4,000 in damage to the Bock minivan and $1,000 to the Wilkerson truck. Wilkerson was cited for failure to stop in an assured clear distance.
