Sac County Emergency Management announced over the weekend the county has been placed under an open-burn ban. The order was issued Sunday on the recommendation of fire chiefs from throughout the county. Under this order, residents are prohibited from starting most types of fires. While the rain seen in the region Tuesday does reduce the risk of fire, the order will remain in effect until local fire departments determine it is no longer necessary. Some varieties of burning are still allowed but are strongly discouraged. Residents should contact their local fire department or law enforcement agency before starting a fire as violation of the burn ban is a simple misdemeanor. Sac County joins Audubon, Calhoun, Greene and Guthrie Counties with active burn bans as of Tuesday, Sept. 8.
