Since Carroll County Sheriff Doug Bass announced his retirement a little over a month ago, there has been an outpouring of support, gratitude and praise for the 43-years of service Bass has provided the county. There is nobody, however, who has higher praise for Bass than the people he works with side-by-side every day. Deputy Tom Franzen said though Bass expected everyone to work hard, he has his priorities in the right place.
The common thread that was touched on by each member of the Sheriff’s Department is a personality and a communication style that appeals to nearly everyone Bass meets. A trait Chief Deputy Ken Pingrey says will leave a void with Bass’ retirement.
After six years of working with Sheriff Bass, Deputy John Cretsinger said he admires his ability to be an equalizer, treating everyone with the same respect.
And Administrative Assistant, Shanna Balukoff said that his communication skills were shored up by a solid foundation of listening to others.
Sheriff Doug Bass’ retirement will be effective March 15. An open house in his honor will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office in the lower level of the Carroll County Courthouse on Monday, March 14. Coincidentally, this is also Bass’ 65th birthday and the public is invited to drop by to congratulate Doug and thank him for his 43 years of service.
