Thursday is St. Patrick’s Day and the informal party will continue when musical group Gaelic Storm takes the stage at the Wild Rose Casino Jefferson on Friday night. Founding member Steve Twigger says there are a lot of different influences when it comes to the stories behind the music, but “spirited” really sums it all up.
Gaelic Storm’s contemporary sound also pulls from Irish, Scottish, and Celtic traditions. It also earned them the informal subtitle “The Titanic Band” once they were propelled into the spotlight on the World Charts after making an appearance in the 1997 movie Titanic.
After touring the country for nearly two decades, and spending around 200 days out of the year on the road, Twigger says the band members are nowhere near slowing down.
With gigs all over the country, he says, the Midwest is perhaps the band’s busiest region due to the people who live there.
Though the band keeps it real their song lyrics can stretch the truth. From a drunken donkey winning a horse race to the antics of drinking man Johnny Tarr, Twigger stresses it’s also important to forget the worries of the world – if only for a couple hours.
