As Election Day finally gets rolling, a controversial social media post believed to have originated from Iowa’s 6th District Democratic candidate, C.J. Petersen has made its way into the forefront of Iowa news. The Iowa Standard author, Jacob Hall, today (Tuesday) reported on a Facebook post from the account of a Clinton Joe Petersen penned before the June primaries in support of one of the plethora of Democrat candidates at that time. It read, “He’s the one candidate in the race who actually cares about me and you. I’ll vote for whoever the Democrats nominate, but he’s the only one worth actually voting for in a primary. Oh, except Kamala Harris. She’s a cop. I hate cops.” Hall personally contacted Petersen, who admitted to having a Facebook account with that name, but says he doesn’t remember writing the post. Carroll Broadcasting also contacted Petersen, who stood by that assertion.
Petersen says he did vote for Kamala Harris three weeks ago, so that should negate the last comment. He also says he deleted the old account for a very specific reason.
Petersen finds the timing of the release of the post suspect with it coming to light a day ahead of the election. He adds these types of fabricated and inflammatory items often pop up online for politicians. But, those people that know him, he states, know he staunchly supports all of those who put their lives on the line for others. And when it comes to a pledge to pursue the idea of reallocating funding for police departments that has been signed by many members of the Iowa Democratic Party, he is definitely not on board.
Petersen has not, and says he would not sign that pledge. A link to the breaking story from Jacob Hall at The Iowa Standard can be found with this story on our website.
