Charges are pending against a Jefferson man who started a brush fire that got out of control on Sunday afternoon. The Jefferson Police Department received a call about the unsupervised fire near the 200 block of Briarwood Bend at approximately 1:34 p.m. The caller said the fire was out of control and the Jefferson Fire Department was dispatched to the area and a public works employee brought in an end loader to help gain control of the fire. Officers report the extreme winds on Sunday put several homes in danger from the flying embers. Officers learned that 27-year-old Karl Maurice Krieger was responsible for starting the fire in the 1500 block of Westwood Drive. An arrest warrant has been sought against Krieger for reckless use of fire, a serious misdemeanor.
