Bev Wunschel, age 85 of Wall Lake, IA, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake, IA. Beverly Ann Rusch was born on March 31, 1935, to parents Harvey and Helma (Laumbach) Rusch in Schleswig, IA. She grew up and attended school in the Ida County area. She was baptized on April 5, 1935, and confirmed on April 2, 1950, at Friedens Evangelical Church (Now United Church of Christ) in Schleswig.
On November 22, 1953, Bev married the love of her life, Duane Wunschel, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. This union was blessed with three children: Rick, Marsha, and Tammy. Together they raised their family in Wall Lake where Bev worked as a dietary cook at Twilight Acres Nursing Home for twenty years.
Bev was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid. In her earlier years, she enjoyed bowling and bowled on a women’s league. Bev and Duane traveled to Branson, MO, numerous times and to many other states. Trips to the casinos always brought a smile to Bev’s face; she loved playing the slots! Flowers were another favorite thing of hers, she enjoyed it when springtime rolled around and she was able to plant more and tend to them.
Bev was always a great baker. She made THE BEST homemade bread and rolls. She loved being in the kitchen, especially if it meant making food for her loved ones. Her family meant the world to her and her faith was strong. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spending time with them came before anything else. Her warm, caring ways will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish her memory include her husband of 67 years, Duane Wunschel of Wall Lake, IA; son Rick (Joan) Wunschel of Wall Lake, IA; grandchildren: Jeremy (Jennifer) Wunschel, Eric (Jill) Wunschel, Kate (Andy) Reiman, Stephen (Nikki) Wunschel, Alison (Cord) Horsley, Beth (Chad) Miller, Nicole (DJ) Wiggins; great-grandchildren: Josh, Colton, Brooke, Peyton, Paige, Wyatt, and Isabelle; Noah and Avery; Vienna, Nola, and Maya; Nora and Quinn; Keylee; Morgan, Emarie and Daine; sister-in-law Theone Rusch; many extended family members and friends.
Bev was preceded in death by her daughters, Marsha Dixon and Tammy Wunschel; parents Harvey and Helma Rusch; brother Merlin; sister Janice; and grandson Jeffrey Dixon.
Private family services will be held. Public visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Sunday afternoon, December 13, 2020 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake, IA.
