The Carroll Chamber of Commerce has announced the cancellation of the Carroll Hoops tournament in February of 2021. Program Director, Ashley Schable, says it was a very difficult decision for the Chamber Board of Directors to cancel the traditional competition, but due to COVID-19 concerns, they felt it was the only way to ensure they are doing all they can to protect the health and well-being of the players, families, coaches, volunteers and coordinators. The impact spreads beyond the nine packed gymnasiums on that weekend to area businesses as the community welcomes more than 2,500 players and coaches to Carroll for the two-day tournament, originally slated for Feb. 20 and Feb. 21. “We are disappointed as we always enjoy welcoming so many teams and fans to our community for a weekend full of games and so much more,” Shable stated in a press release. “We also look forward to watching all of our local teams play in front of a home crowd.” The Carroll Hoops committee will shift their focus to the planning for a 2022 tournament, hoping to bring it back stronger than ever.
